How to keep your crystal jewelry sparkling even in summer
Care Guide for Crystalp Jewelry with Swarovski® Crystals by the Pool, Sea, and Sun
Sparkling turquoise, a cool breeze from the water, and you with your favorite jewelry – that's what the perfect summer day looks like. But chlorine, salt & sunscreen can affect even the most sparkling crystals. With the following tips, you can keep your jewelry brilliant season after season.
Why Pool and Seawater are a Challenge
-
Chlorine in the pool: attacks fine rhodium or gold platings ➜ the metal setting tarnishes, crystals appear dull.
-
Salt in the sea: removes moisture and promotes micro-corrosion ➜ dull surface, hairline cracks.
-
Heat + chemicals: dissolve adhesives ➜ stones can loosen.
In short: A dip in the water rarely causes immediate damage, but repeated bathing significantly shortens the lifespan of your jewelry.
Can my crystal jewelry get wet at all?
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Quick refreshing dip | ✔️ Mostly uncritical, as long as you clean & dry the piece immediately afterward. |
| Long pool sessions / daily swimming | ⚠️ Better to take it off. Constant chemical exposure causes shine to fade. |
| Saltwater & watersports | ⚠️ High salt concentration promotes corrosion – better to store jewelry in a cloth bag. |
First-Aid Ritual after Bathing
-
Rinse thoroughly – briefly hold under lukewarm tap water to remove chlorine or salt residues.
-
Gently dry – use a soft microfiber cloth, only dab, do not rub.
-
Polish – wipe the crystal to a mirror shine with a dry polishing cloth (without cleaning agents).
-
Air out – leave exposed for a few minutes before putting the jewelry back in its case.
Long-Term Care Routine
-
Put on jewelry last, take off first – this prevents contact with perfume, hairspray & sunscreen.
-
Storage in a dry cloth or travel case
-
Deep cleaning once or twice a year with lukewarm water + pH-neutral soap; then dry thoroughly.
With a little attention, your jewelry will remain a real eye-catcher even in midsummer.
